Regards Croisés- Exhibition of photographs on Le Corbusier’s architecture
April 17th, 6.30 pm
Indo-French glances (Chandigarh-Firminy) opens on April 17th, 6:30 PM Galerie Romain Rolland, 72 Lodi Estate
Regards Croisés was a project conceptualized in May 2004. This exchange programme between two cities which share a similar architectural heritage, involved Chandigarh-based photographer Diwan Manna and a French photographer Michel Dieudonné.
Manna went to Firminy, a small town in Central France which is the second largest architectural accomplishment of Le Corbusier after Chandigarh. He was there to take pictures of the people and the architecture of the town, while Dieudonné captured our very own beautiful city, Chandigarh, through his lens. The result of this exchange programme are photographs vibrant in style and perception. Indeed, conceptually a unique exhibition, it will enable us to see Chandigarh through French eyes and Firminy through Indian eyes. Thus, aptly called “Indo-French Glances”, the idea underlying the exhibition is to showcase the perspective of a foreigner in a foreign land and capture what a local artist might overlook.
The exhibition was first held in Firminy in October 2006 where it received much accolades and marked the inauguration of the newly-built church Saint-Pierre, followed by an exhibition at Chandigarh in 2007. The Alliance Française and The French Embassy in India, in collaboration with St.Etienne Metropole, seek to promote the modern heritage of our country through this exhibition
The exhibition will be on view from April 18 to 23, 2008 from 11 am – 7 pm at Galerie Romain Rolland.
