Foreword
Catalogue Dewsbury Museum UK

I first came across Diwan Manna’s images on a postcard. Having no previous knowledge of his work my first reaction was admiration and interest. As it became clearer that Diwan Manna was a photographer based in India whose work was currently touring Britain, it seemed appropriate to programme this work for The Art Gallery at Dewbury Museum.

Dewsbury Museum is run by Kirklees Metropolitan Council in West Yorkshire, UK. One of three Galleries and six museums, it features a series of changing Contemporary Art exhibitions. We feature and promote the work of living artists who are pushing the boundaries of their medium and subject matter and are in their own ways experimental. As a Curator I am drawn to issue based work, images that are challenging and have a story behind them. Diwan Manna treats his subject with a rare sensitivity. He uncovers the inner life of what passes for the familiar human reality..

His work, I have no hesitation in saying is call attention notice on us.
