Photographing Architecture: Le Corbusier as Seen by His Photographers

by Julie Noirot

Ever since it was invented, photography has always played a decisive role in the knowledge, the dissemination and the reception of architecture. An early believer in the power of images, Le Corbusier used photography as a tool for documentation, a medium for research and an instrument for promoting his new architecture. During his career, he worked with many professional and amateur photographers such as Charles Gérard, Marius Gravot, Frédéric Boissonnas and Lucien Hervé. Among them, the two...Read More

This is an artist I just stumbled upon while looking for new artist, that I've not been informed about before. His work is ... different. It makes me tilt my head slightly while examining it, as though that will help decide what it is. For this reason.. I've decided he was well worth writing about. One thing I also admire about him is that his work is diverse. There are several different series that can be accessed from his website, http://www.diwanmanna.com , and they all have...Read More

Diwan Manna - Fine Art Photography

My conceptual work is a confluence of painting acting and photography. I use painting as a backdrop and actors/models with painted bodies in front. I expose on transparency film and make prints directly from the transparency on color photographic paper as one would do with negative film. The printing involves rather long exposures of burning and dodging and I make extensive use of the filters to enhance colour and density in certain areas. The total exposure time could be as long as two hours...Read More

The guide standing in front of the Chandigarh High Court drew our attention to the "18.3 meter pylons" that appeared to be holding up the building. In extraordinary Day-Glo red, yellow and a kind of aquamarine bluish green, the three enormous pillars needed no introduction as they dominate any view of the building. I was part of a mid-afternoon tour of...Read More
